Interactive Education: A step to boosting Child's confidence

12-Dec-2017

"Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each."

-Plato

In a constantly changing world, alongside parents, it is teachers who play the most important role - that of shaping minds and moulding future leaders. Learning is not just memorising dates, formulae or facts. It is about interacting. engaging, grasping, challenging and innovating.

Just half a century ago and even until recently, all school-going children were expected to be alike and equal in every way. They had to dress the same, study the same, and be as academically brilliant as the highest scorer. What old systems failed to acknowledge was that each child has unique gifts and skills to offer to the world, and each has an individual life purpose.

But, over the years, recognising and nurturing this individual has become more and more crucial. It is the key to bringing out the best in each child and raising a generation of distinct yet mindful human beings who can transform the nation and in doing so, the planet. It is the only way to truly change the world.

Veer Bhagat Singh International School has joined this journey towards "Change" and has set up a wholesome and holistic environment for children at school and beyond. Every teacher at VBSIS is consciously working towards making the process of learning engaging and fun for each child.

While subjects like Science, History or Mathematics often make students groan and yawn, at VBSIS, the music, quiz, nature, language, science and other clubs keep them curious, enthusiastic and eager. Concepts are taught through activities and innovative methods by using board games to teach mathematics and grammar, and students are taken to field trips and camps so as to ensure that they have a first-hand experience of life at large. Interactive boards in the class room make teaching learning a Joyful experience. Community outreach programmes sensitize students and empower them to contribute positively to the society.

The school believes that a strong value system and essential life skills can pave the way for well- rounded individuals who will always know how to discern good from bad, and right from wrong. Pertinent topics like bullying, cyber safety, personal security, handling relationships, managing emotions, peer pressure and growing up are dealt with at an individual as well as group level.

The student council plans interactive activities and competitions which helps identify skills and talents of individual students. The class assembly becomes a time of sharing stories, poems, riddles and newspaper updates with each other.

Over the years, students of VBSIS have not only excelled at school but also, participated and collaborated with other students from countries across the globe including France, Japan, UK, Malaysia, Nepal, China and the USA via an exchange of thoughts, ideas and letters, as well as conversations on Skype.

With a constant commitment to interactive learning, it is not a surprise that VBSIS has won awards at the International School level and its students are going places. The Alumni of VBSIS are doing extremely well in their chosen careers and have been successful in creating a niche for themselves. Veer Bhagat Singh International school believes that every change today will change the future forever and continues its zealous efforts to make the world a better place.

As author CS Lewis said - "The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.”
